(€œThe Signum€™s €˜Death and the Maiden€™ is up there with the best from a crowded field€€’The Strad) In 2015, the quartet launched its innovative social media project #quartweet, where composers of all ages and abilities are invited to tweet a short quartet of 140 notes or less on Twitter. Annual Bonsai Show – 23 & 24 November 2024

Sasamiki, Kaminari, Nejikan, New makes of Chinese motors bikes? Perhaps Chinese food.? No, just names of some of the styles and designs of trees that will be on display at our Annual Bonsai Show on the 23 – 24th November at the German Club, Lorraine. For a change, some of the members will be designing there own displays. Over 100 trees will be on show and when you consider that each tree is different you can see the love and care that members have spent on them. We are blessed in the Eastern Cape with having a large selection of trees to choose from and we are the envy of other clubs with our Wild Olive trees, that in some cases are over a hundreds years old, saved from being destroyed to make way for our ever expanding city. We love our trees and the love and attention we give to them is ongoing daily….bug control,, fertilizer, water and general trimming at the right time is essential. Bonsai is a hobby for the whole family, and in many cases, like overseas, trees are handed down from family member to family members. So many of our trees are disappearing at an alarming rate. Why not join the club and do your part in saving our trees. Save the world, make it a better place. There will be demo’s Saturday at 11am with Mike Shute, .then Laurie Stone at 2pm, Sunday at 10am with Edward Kieck and 1pm with Clifton Marais. Demo’s will cover a whole range of subjects from starting a Bonsai, styling to refining your Bonsai tree. A re potting service will be available as well as trees, tools, wire and pots for sale. Senior members on hand to give advice. We will also being holding a raffle with wonderful prizes including a Bonsai tree as well as spot gifts.
